领导力发展

在所有年级, 领导, 公民身份, and character development are fostered through our advisory program, 生活, 学习, 和领导力课程, and through student 领导 programs such as student council, 俱乐部, 和活动. Lessons in environmental stewardship, 同理心, and global 公民身份 happen daily in our classrooms as students learn about themselves and their place in the world around them.

  • Grade 6: 高中基础

    高中基础 class is led by our Sixth Grade Coordinator and serves as an introduction to essential skills students will need as a middle school student.  There is a strong emphasis on building study skills 和学习 time management using both myRenbrook的 assignment center and a plan book.  学生学习研究技能, how to deliver an effective presentation, and how to communicate effectively with teachers and classmates both in-person and online. Students will begin to curate digital portfolios of their work; a process that will continue through their journey through the Upper School.   
  • 七年级:数字素养

    数字素养 class focuses on building skills and tools students need to become responsible “digital citizens.” Digital literacy is “is the ability to use information and communication technologies to find, 评估, 创建, 交流信息, requiring both cognitive and technical skills” (American 图书馆 Association). A central focus of this course is helping students to become intelligent, safe consumers and creators of online content in all areas of their lives.  Additionally, students will have comprehensive training on using the Microsoft Office suite. Students will continue to curate their digital portfolios as part of this course.   
     
  • 7年级 & 8: 生活, 领导, and 学习 (LLL)

    的生活, 领导, and 学习 (LLL) class will help students learn how to identify and improve their communication, 人际关系, 批判性思维, 以及决策能力. We will begin by training students to discriminate among facts, 意见, 和信仰, as they identify their core values. Students will examine the different representations of teens in media and the intersection of cultural, 社会, 以及同伴规范. Our goals include: teaching students appropriate ways to disagree in person and online, respect for individual differences and self, 批判性思维 skills when faced with ethical dilemmas. Students will 创建 and communicate core values statements, complete a character skill survey, role-play scenarios in peer 领导, utilize their abilities and affinities to be effective learners, and become more vested members of the communities to which they belong.  

    Built in to LLL class is a curriculum designed to emphasize health, 健康, and informed decision making surrounding many issues young teenagers face. 在一个  
    age-appropriate and grade-appropriate level, students learn about puberty and human development, 药物滥用问题, aspects of healthy relationships, 性, 和身份. 
     
    With all topics and units, the emphasis will be on social- emotional learning. Flexibility is built into the schedule to dovetail with the 咨询项目, Human Growth and Development topics, and any emergent issues in the school community.  
  • Grade 8: 中学 研讨会

    中学 研讨会 is a weekly course 创建d to 支持 students as they make the transition to high school.  的指导下 Renbrook的 中学入读 Director, students will learn important skills such as how to prepare a resume, how to interview with an admission officer or potential employer, and how to identify individual strengths and characteristics in order to inform decision-making when applying to secondary school. Students will receive 支持 with essay writing and editing as well as timely information about what to expect at all stages of the application process.    
  • 六年级、七年级、 & 8: Service 学习, 领导, and Mentoring

    Students have service-learning opportunities at every grade level.  Service learning brings learning to life by connecting curricula to community while building relationships, 同理心, 和利他主义. Closer to campus, all students in grades seven and eight participate in our “buddies” program.  这是伦布鲁克最喜欢的传统, the oldest students in the school are paired with students in our Pre- 幼儿园 and 初级幼儿园 for a full year of friendship, 活动, 和学习.  Students in grade eight partner with sixth graders through a series of “bounce back” events.  Eighth graders visit their sixth-grade homerooms to mentor, 欢迎, 支持, and encourage their new Upper School peers.  最后, each eighth-grade student selects a community service role as part of campus 领导; these include working on the yearbook, helping in the library or art room, and assisting any one of many campus offices.
